Leadership
Katherine Smith offers several student leadership opportunities. To empower students, we create opportunities for them to share their perspectives and choices. We believe that this empowerment strengthens their connection to their learning, and prepares them for future leadership roles.
School Ambassadors
This club assists with leading school tours throughout the school year showing adults and student visitors about our school and how we learn. K. Smith hosts visitors each year. For example, in 2016 students and adults came from Beijing, China to see the way we use PBL learning in our classrooms. Read more about this visit to our school.
Student Leadership Team
The Student Leadership Team assists in creating our positive school culture. Students organize Spirit Days and other activities. Part of their responsibility as a member of the team is to represent students, making sure their voices are heard. These leaders also serve as role models to other students demonstrating how to make good choices. Students on this team also create content for our weekly school-wide meeting, Morning Pride.
Playground Heroes
These students serve as role models on the playground during recess. During the school day, Playground Heroes participate as leaders at recess . They lead games and activities during the recess time as well as help students manage conflicts if they arise.
